St. Cloud State University offers the Teen Crash Prevention Skills once every few months at the Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center.
It consists of a brief classroom presentation before students hit the course in the center’s vehicles. They will be coached and challenged on a number of handling and driving maneuvers like off-road recovery, crash avoidance, inattentive driving, seatbelt use, braking, reaction time, skid control, and more.
Parents also have the opportunity to see how their child drives on the training course.
The next class is coming up on January 4. The cost is $150.
At least one parent must accompany their teen. While teens are on the range, parents attend a two-hour informational presentation on the real risks of teen driving.
