(KNSI) – A police officer was assaulted after responding to a fight during a basketball game at Apollo High School in St. Cloud. Police were called to the school for fighting between juveniles watching the game. Police say the fights involved individuals or small groups that were disbanded by police and school staff, with no one getting hurt.
Police were still at the school around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday when officers said a fight started outside the north doors. Police say a juvenile female was taken into custody for fighting, and during the arrest, she allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted an officer.
The juvenile suspect was turned over to a parent after being treated and released from St. Cloud Hospital for injuries she suffered during the fight.
The St. Cloud Police Department says it will be forwarding the case to the Stearns County Attorney’s office for charges related to 4th-degree assault, obstructing legal process, and disorderly conduct.
The officers who responded to the fight were not injured. No other injuries were reported during the fights.
