(KNSI) – A group is attempting to reclaim the title of world’s largest ice carousel on Saturday and Sunday, February 12th and 13th at the 5th annual Sunny Zwilling Memorial I.C.E. Fest on Green Prairie Fish Lake in Little Falls.
Event organizer Becca Zwilling-Ruegemer explains the event started as a way to honor her grandfather, Sunny Zwilling, who taught his children to use chain saws. To make an ice carousel, chain saws are used to cut two circles in the ice, one to cut the disk free and the other to allow it to spin. The event held the world record for the largest ice carousel until January when a town in Northern Maine claimed the record.
Saturday, they will attempt to reclaim the title by cutting an ice carousel that’s 1,340 feet across.
Shuttles will run from Little Falls businesses to the lake, and a warming tent will be set up with free food and beverages. Activities include spearfishing, igloo building, airplane rides, and more.
There’s also another reason for the event.
ICE Fest is an annual fundraiser for the Little Falls-based Pay It Forward Foundation. All proceeds and donations will benefit the Flyer Pride Pack (a weekend food program) and the Kare Kloset (a resource for students that don’t have basic needs met at home).
The festival runs February 12th and 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
