(KNSI) – Four Students from central Minnesota are advancing to the multi-regional spelling bee later this month. The 2022 Central Minnesota Regional Spelling Bee took place on Tuesday at the Resource Training & Solutions building in Sartell. Forty kids in grades 5-8 participated in the competition in two spelling bees, a morning session, and an afternoon session.

An 8th grader from Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School, Liam Mick (top right) took first place in the morning spelling bee to qualify. The second-place morning competitor was Van Battle (top left), a 6th grader from Catholic Community Schools. In the afternoon spelling bee, Levi Gould (bottom left), 7th grader from HEY – Home Educated Youth, took first place and second-place went to Ruth Couture, (bottom right) an 8th grader from the Foley School District.

The competitors move onto the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee on February 22nd in Fergus Falls. The winners from that event will move onto the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

The national spelling bee is broadcast live on the ION channel. According to organizers, the spelling bee helps students improve spelling and vocabulary development.
