(KNSI) — The Sauk Rapids Police Department is mourning the loss of K9 Thunder.
According to the department’s Facebook page, K9 Thunder died on Saturday afternoon surrounded by his human partner Sergeant Matt Bosma and his family. Thunder was diagnosed in October with Malignant Hemangiosarcoma — a terminal cancer in dogs — with a three to nine-month life expectancy after diagnosis.
The department said K9 Thunder loved to go to work every day with Sgt. Bosma, and would bark and spin in excitement before any deployment he was sent on, whether it was sniffing out drugs, evidence, or looking for suspects. He was a fun and energetic dog who loved swimming, circling, and chewing on his toys.
The post says, “The Sauk Rapids Police Department are proud of the amount of drugs Sgt. Bosma and Thunder helped find, and the extra safety they provided officers in searching for and locating suspects.
“Sgt. Bosma was especially lucky to have a dog that loved people, and enjoyed public and school demonstrations and meeting anyone that would walk up to the squad car.”
K9 Thunder was seven years old.
