(KNSI) – Multiple schools across Central Minnesota are closed or two hours late on Friday due to arctic cold air. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Warning until noon for Stearns, Todd and Kandiyohi County. Air temperatures of -20 have blanketed the region with wind chills of -45.
A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect until noon in Benton, Sherburne, Wright and Meeker County, where wind chills of -35 are expected.
Officials say exposed skin can suffer frostbite in as little as ten minutes in those conditions. Authorities urge caution while traveling outside and wear appropriate clothing, including a hat and gloves.
