(KNSI) — The Minnesota State Patrol says they believe they have found the vehicle and potentially the driver who hit an eight-year-old girl and fled the scene on December 30.

According to an incident report from the Minnesota State Patrol, eight-year-old Iliana Tasso was hit just after 10:30 p.m. near southbound Highway 252 and 66th Avenue North in Brooklyn Center. They believe the driver was behind the wheel of a 2017 or 2018 white Nissan Rogue. Tasso died at the scene.

The state patrol says the individual is cooperating with investigators.

Tasso was not in any of the nearby vehicles, and it wasn’t immediately clear how she ended up on the road. She reportedly is autistic and had potentially wandered away from her home.
