(KNSI) – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Central Minnesota. The National Weather Service says the advisory will be in place from midnight to 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Heavy snow is going to develop in western Minnesota later this evening. Meanwhile, a dangerous line of storms will lift up across Minnesota toward Wisconsin. The NWS says to be off the roads before the storms and snow arrive.

The storm system is expected to bring up to two inches of snow and 60 MPH winds in Stearns, Benton, Morrison, Mille Lacs and Kanabec County.

Wind gusts in excess of 50 mph will lead to low visibility and hazardous travel tonight. A flash freeze on roadways on other surfaces is likely as rain this evening quickly transitions to a wintry mix and temperatures plummet into the teens.

Officials say to plan on slippery road conditions tonight and tomorrow morning. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.
