(KNSI) – COVID-19 booster shots are now available for 16 and 17-year olds at CentraCare.
CentraCare COVID-19 Incident Commander Dr. George Morris says having more people eligible for a booster is a step in the right direction.
“I think it will help us out. When the Pfizer vaccines first were developed they were targeted for 16 year olds and we had a lot of people that were 16 and 17 that we had vaccinated many months ago and this allowed us to catch them up.”
Dr. Morris says the most significant increase in cases has been in school-age children.
“We are seeing cases the numbers of cases that we’re seeing associated with schools or school age is very high so the more young people we can get vaccinated and boosted now will help really decrease the spread.”
Those sixteen and older who’ve completed their first Pfizer vaccination series at least six months ago are eligible to receive a booster during a regular visit or at the walk-in vaccine clinic at CentraCare South Point. The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
A parent or guardian must provide consent for the vaccination.
