(KNSI) – A local organization that helps families with sick children is hosting a free virtual Christmas Concert, again. Tanner’s Team Foundation is holding the Fa La La For Families Virtual Christmas Concert fundraising event on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Tanner’s Team volunteer Gail Cruikshank says the event was held virtually for the first time in 2020 because of the COVID pandemic.
“It was a huge success last year. And so we are doing it again this year. All of our musicians, largely they’re all local musicians, which are doing amazing work and everybody that performed last year wanted to perform again this year. We’ve added a few more.”
She says the event is a perfect time to sit with your family and a small group of friends and watch the concert. Donations will be accepted during the show.
This year’s lineup includes the Killer Vees, Kat Perkins and Heather Novak. Last year, the event brought in about $18,000, with 7,000 people streaming the show. St. Cloud Financial Credit Union will match donations up to $5,000. The fundraiser hopes to bring in around $30,000 this year.
Gail talked about how the organization helps families with a child battling a life-threatening illness.
“We provide funding specifically to pay for mortgages, car payments, gas bills, whatever that bill just so we can take something off of that family’s plate while they are going through challenging times so they can hopefully focus on their kiddos instead of having to worry about where’s that payment coming for the mortgage.”
She says typically, one parent isn’t working when a child is being treated for a severe illness which adds more financial stress to families.
Tanner Fuls, who was diagnosed at age 11 with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a form of pre-leukemia, passed away on November 27, 2010. His parents, John and Cindy, started Tanner’s Team Foundation in 2011 to help families with children fighting a life-threatening illness.
