(KNSI) – Supply chain issues are being seen on store shelves in Central Minnesota. Grocery store chain Coborn’s is no exception. Vice President of Marketing and Communications Dennis Host says the issue hitting them the hardest is on the production side.
“This backs all the way up to manufacturing. It does look like a supply chain issue but really where the root of all this is, is actually at the manufacturer level.”
He says manufacturers have challenges with getting enough workers and trucking issues. Manufacturers then pass that on to the suppliers who provide Coborn’s and other stores goods to sell. Host says they’ve been working closely with suppliers and local vendors to do whatever they can to anticipate what’s coming and to understand what the challenges are.
He says the disruptions make it difficult for shoppers to find things, but overall, they’re in pretty good shape.
“As you go through our stores, you can see that there are outages here and there. And what may be out today may be back on the shelf tomorrow. It really all depends.”
He expects the labor shortages, manufacturing issues, and a global pandemic to remain problems until the second quarter of 2022.
“This is just a perfect storm of just a lot of things that are going on right now economically and all of those areas it is truly an unprecedented time.”
