(KNSI) – Another Salvation Army kettle was stolen Tuesday night in St. Cloud.
Major Mike Parker from the Salvation Army says they’re changing procedures to secure the kettles after four have been stolen in the past two weeks.
“The first kettle that got stolen was in an entryway inside the store. And at the end of the night, we go around, pick up kettle and someone went in and grabbed the stand, the kettle, the sign, everything. The other two, we were picking up kettles at night, and they were hanging in a couple of locations and they went out with bolt cutters. And last night we think they may have cut off the handle. So yeah, when we’re picking up kettles, we just can’t be at every location at the same time”
Parker said this is a first in his time at the Salvation Army.
“I just don’t know what to think, there’s sort of a moral decline here. We’re trying to help people. We’re trying to help the people that we work with, the needs that we have, we’re seeing increases in the need for food or shelter on a pretty consistent basis”
He says the Salvation Army is working to staff as many kettles as possible to guard against theft. If you’d like to help out, visit here
