(KNSI) – The Beaver Island Trail has been awarded more than $1.1 million to expand the paved bike and walking path.
According to Stearns County, the $1,129,850 will be used to build a 10-foot-wide trail that will begin on the northwest side of Clearwater and connect to the city’s existing recreational trail. Construction will continue northwest along County Road 75, to where it will connect to St. Cloud’s portion of the Beaver Island Trail.
The Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission (GMRPTC) just completed its application review process and chose the Beaver Island Trail Extension Project – Phase 2 and 19 other park and trail projects around the state to receive a record $12.2 million in total funding for the Fiscal Year 2023.
The GMRPTC will now ask the Minnesota Legislature to approve the recommendations through the Parks and Trails Legacy Fund, one of four funds created by the 2008 Minnesota Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
