(KNSI) — The Sartell-St. Stephen School Board says it decided to extend winter break.

At a special meeting Friday morning, December 22nd was added to the district’s schedule, extending the break from December 22nd through January 2nd, with classes resuming on January 3rd.

In a statement, Superintendent Jeff Ridlehoover explained that the move is that the district’s hope is for the students and staff to use the time to be with their families. “Our District is in a fortunate position in that we typically schedule more teaching days than most school districts, so this extra day off for students will not need to be made up at a later date.”

The district is also making accommodations, so the extra days don’t create a hardship for area families. Food service for all students kindergarten through 12th grade will be provided. Breakfast and lunch meals will be sent home on Tuesday, December 21st. Childcare will also be provided through the Boys & Girls Club’s KIDSTOP program at Oak Ridge Early Learning Center and Pine Meadow Primary School.

For families not currently registered with KIDSTOP, the Boys & Girls Club offers a first come, first serve option for childcare this day for $27. To participate, families must register directly with KIDSTOP by emailing gbechtold@bgcmn.org.
