Paramount Celebrating 100 Years By reshowing First Movie Shown in Theatre

(KNSI) – The Paramount Theatre celebrates its 100th Anniversary by going back to 1921 and reshowing the first film to grace its screen. The Paramount Theatre is showing the silent movie Way Down East on Sunday at 3 p.m. The movie is free, but seating is limited.

The Paramount asked people to reserve their seats now. The Paramount opened as the Sherman Theatre on Christmas Eve 1921 with the film. Movie tickets were $.50 ($7.50 in today’s money). The movie is about a naive country girl who’s tricked into a sham marriage by a wealthy womanizer. She must then rebuild her life despite the shame of having borne a child out of wedlock.

The film will be on the big screen with music like you would have heard in 1921. Popcorn, soda and other snacks will be for sale in the lobby.
