(KNSI) – The founder and Executive Director of GREAT Theatre will be stepping down and pursuing new opportunities. Dennis Wachtler-Whipple has been in charge of GREAT Theatre for 24 years.
In a statement, Whipple said, “It is with joy and gratitude in my heart that I announce that I am stepping down from my role at GREAT Theatre to start a new chapter by relocating to New York with my husband of twenty years, Scott. It has been the honor of a lifetime to be able to work with every board member, staff member, artist, camp family, volunteer, community partner and our amazing audiences over the last 24 years.”
According to a press release from GREAT Theatre, the organization grew from an all-volunteer group with a budget of $30,000 to a $2.1 million theater production performing for more than 68,000 people a year during Whipple’s time. GREAT has produced 190 shows, including “Les Miserables,” White Christmas” and “Seussical The Musical.”
GREAT Theatre’s Board is forming a search committee to find a successor. Whipple will remain in his role while a search is conducted and assist with the transition through July of 2022.
GREAT has a board of directors, a full-time staff of 14 and over 20 contract artists.
