Sun Country Airlines Announces Nonstop Service to Seven New Cities

(KNSI) — Sun Country Airlines says it is offering nonstop flights to seven new cities.

The airline will now fly to Buffalo, New York, Burlington, Vermont, Charleston, South Carolina, Jacksonville, Florida, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Spokane, Washington, and Vancouver, British Columbia.

Sun Country now flies 100 routes to 80 airports in the U.S., Central America, and the Caribbean with the expansion.

Last month, the Minneapolis-based airline announced it was partnering with other Minnesota-based companies, including Caribou Coffee and Fulton Brewing. The snack offering will also include Dot’s Pretzels which are made in North Dakota.

Sun Country was once owned by disgraced businessman Tom Petters’ Petters Group Worldwide, which acquired the carrier in 2006. Petters resigned in 2008 after his massive financial fraud scheme was discovered and forced the airline into bankruptcy.

Sun Country is now owned by Apollo Global Management, which purchased the airline from the Davis family, owners of Cambria countertop company, in 2017. Amazon Air also bought a minority stake in Sun Country, making it a contract carrier for the online retail behemoth. Under a mutual partnership agreement to be an Amazon cargo carrier, Amazon also supplies Sun Country with Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
