(KNSI) — Big Lake’s new police chief is on paid administrative leave as the city investigates a complaint against him.
Chief Matt Hayen was sworn in July 14th of this year after the former Chief Joel Scharf handed in his resignation in May after nine years in the position, citing health concerns after being diagnosed with PTSD. Hayen was appointed acting chief before he was sworn in this summer.
KNSI sent an email to Chief Hayen, but an automatic reply says he is out of the office until further notice. The city issued a statement saying, “The City received a complaint against Chief Hayen, and the City is currently investigating that complaint. During the investigation, Chief Hayen is out on leave. Chief Hayen has been on leave since September 13th.”
The nature of the complaint has not been made public.
