UPDATE: 5:00 p.m. – (KNSI) – The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office states that the passenger, 9-year-old Gage Beumer of Hillman, MN, died in this accident. Neither the driver or the passenger were wearing seatbelts. This case remains under investigation.

Original Story:

(KNSI) – A child was killed after getting ejected in an ATV crash southeast of Hillman.

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office says a 10 year-old-boy was driving a Polaris side by side ATV on private property with the 9-year-old around 5 p.m. on Sunday when the accident occurred off 103rd Street, east of 400th Avenue in Lakin Township.

Investigators say the side-by-side ATV traveled near a cornfield when the 10-year-old lost control, causing the ATV to flip and eject both boys. The 9-year-old boy died at the scene.

The 10-year-old driver was taken to St. Cloud Hospital by a family member, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

The sheriff’s office says the crash remains under investigation and details of the juveniles involved are not being released at this time.
