(KNSI) — A St. Cloud man has been sentenced to five years probation and ordered to pay a fine following his conviction for receiving stolen property.
The criminal complaint says that police in St. Cloud responded to a theft report in March 2020 where a man said someone broke into a work trailer at a job site. He said the lock had been cut off, and power tools were missing.
Later that same day, police in Little Falls were called to the Lik-Nu Gun and Pawn Shop by the owner, who said there were two people there trying to pawn stolen property. Two officers arrived at the scene and met with the owner, who told investigators he had heard about the theft from a job site in St. Cloud earlier that morning. He said he had a list of the stolen tools and that the two people in the shop tried to pawn two of the tools on that list.
Police spoke with one of the men, Charles Allen Sloan, who, according to the criminal complaint, told police he bought the tools from someone else the day before. Sloan was arrested but agreed to give a statement. He told investigators he went to St. Cloud and bought the tools, knowing they were stolen, and admitted he had done it before.
The tools — a cement saw and a hammer drill — were valued at more than $2450.
The maximum sentence for the felony charge is five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
