(KNSI) – Medical experts are worried this year’s flu season could be the worst in years. Coborn’s Pharmacist Jason Miller tells KNSI News why more people could get the flu this year.

“Because we didn’t have a flu season last year we think the reaction to the flu virus might be more pronounced this year because we didn’t go through it last year. So if there is a flu outbreak, it could be even worse. That’s because we did not have the antibodies that we generate ourselves. Basically, we took a year off.”

He says the precautions that virtually eliminated last year’s flu season are the same things that help keep a person from getting COVID.

“We didn’t have a flu season essentially. So we had lowest case numbers basically ever. We found the social distancing and masking works. So we had really high vaccination rates for flu last year as well which helped control flu outbreaks.”

Miller says that’s why people must get a flu vaccine this year. He says the best time to get the vaccine is in September or October. Peak flu season in Minnesota usually hits in February.

Right now, you can get 25-cents off a gallon of gas if you get your flu shot at a Coborn’s or Cashwise Pharmacy.
