(KNSI) – Police are investigating a report of a possible explosive device in a pickup truck outside the Library of Congress on Capitol Hill and have evacuated multiple buildings on the sprawling Capitol complex.
The building is near the Capitol and the Supreme Court. Sources in D.C. told KNSI News the situation is unfolding near one of the three Library of Congress buildings on the Capitol Complex. Congressional staffers say the Jefferson and Madison Library of Congress buildings have been evacuated, as has the adjacent Cannon House Office Building.
6th District Congressman Tom Emmer uses the Cannon House Office Building. KNSI News has confirmed Emmer is in Minnesota while Congress is in recess. The lawmaker Tweeted “Concerned & closely monitoring the security threat at the #Capitol. My Washington, D.C. staff is safe and accounted for, and we’re hoping for a swift resolution.”
Communications with 7th District Representative Michelle Fischbach’s office confirmed she is not in D.C., and her staff on Capitol Hill are safe and sound.
Fischbach’s office is inside the Longworth House Office Building, which is across the street and on the backside of the Cannon building.
Staffers say they’re keeping an eye on the situation and will follow the direction of the U.S. Capitol Police should the situation escalate.
