(KNSI) – A Burnsville man has been charged after allegedly raping a woman at a Waite Park hotel.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the Coratel Inn on August 15th and found a woman crying and cowering on the floor, saying a man had raped her in a hotel room. Another woman there was allegedly yelling at the man and threatening him.
Police say the woman was celebrating her birthday with her fiance when three men joined them in the parking lot. They said the men groped one of the women, and after both of them told the group to stop, the fiance became upset and left the hotel. The woman had nowhere to go, so she got into a truck, allegedly owned by one of the men, and called her fiance, asking them to come and get her.
The woman and suspect, 48-year-old Jose Juan Gonzalez-Galvan, were apparently acquainted with one another, and the woman said she knew Gonzalez-Galvan wanted to have sex with her. The criminal complaint says he rented a hotel room, and she did not resist because she was afraid.
During the assault, the woman said Gonzalez-Galvan put his hand on her neck, making it hard for her to breathe. Court documents say he stopped when the woman’s fiance knocked on the door.
Police say Gonzalez-Galvan fled the scene and was later caught by a Stearns County sheriff’s deputy. He said he left the hotel because he “did not want any trouble.”
Gonzalez-Galvan was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Bail was set at $15,000. His next court appearance is set for August 30th.
