(KNSI) – An officer fired a gun while arresting a man who led police on a chase in Meeker County.

The Sheriff’s Office says 37-year-old Dustin Nelson was suspected of breaking into a home in Darwin Township on Saturday.

Deputies found the Litchfield man at the intersection of Highway 24 and 285th Street.

While talking with the Deputy, Nelson jumped on his scooter and drove away.

Deputies followed as he drove to his home and ran inside. A short time later, deputies watched Nelson leave the house in a pickup truck.

Deputies say Nelson refused to pull over when they attempted a traffic stop.

Investigators say Nelson drove to a rural home in Darwin Township where he ran from his truck, jumped into another vehicle, and tried to flee again.

A deputy was able to deploy a Taser before Nelson could drive away.

Deputies say Nelson continued to resist arrest and was physically taken into custody. During the altercation, a deputy discharged their service weapon. The bullet struck no one.

Nelson was charged on Tuesday.

In January, Nelson was arrested after leading police on a 23-mile chase in Meeker County.

An outside agency is investigating the weapon discharge.
