(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Fire Department says an outdoor cooking fire did more than $1000 damage to the siding of a home Wednesday afternoon.
A critical incident report from the fire department says the outdoor cooking fire started the grass on fire about 3:30 in the 1000 block of Washington Memorial Drive. The fire burned a roughly 50 foot by 50 foot area before spreading to the next door neighbor’s yard, causing $1500 damage to the siding.
No one was hurt.
The National Fire Protection Association says the most active months for grill-related fires are between May and August, peaking in July. They can be especially dangerous, experts say, because many of them happen in residential areas near homes and recreation spaces.
Our extremely dry conditions right now make any outdoor burning a hazard. The latest drought monitor says 72% of Minnesota is in an extreme drought.
