(KNSI) – The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help after a historical site caught fire Monday night.

According to a press release from the department, a 911 call came in about a fire at the Borgstrom House Historic Site on Main Street North in Upsala just before 10:45. When the fire department arrived, they were able to get the fire under control and contain it to the attic area of the building.

According to the City of Upsala website, John S. Borgstrom and his family came to Upsala in 1893 and started farming, and Borgstrom, affectionately known as J.S., began a photography business to help supplement the farm income. The photography business grew to have several locations. Borgstrom then began a confectionary shop and a hardware store. He was also an undertaker and furniture salesman.

Borgstrom purchased 60 acres of land from a man named August Johnson in 1913, and along with his son Axel, platted the area, which is now one of the main business and residential areas in town.

Borgstrom is also credited with establishing the Farmer’s State Bank of Upsala in 1914 with several other gentlemen from the area and served as the bank’s first president.

The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has come in to help in the investigation. Anyone with information can contact the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office at 320-632-9233.
