Leighton Broadcasting Named Honorary Fireworks Commissioner

(KNSI) – A Central Minnesota media and marketing company is St. Cloud’s 2021 Honorary July 4 Fireworks Commissioner.

Leighton Broadcasting was announced as this year’s honorary commissioner on Monday.

St. Cloud Fireworks Committee Board President Tom Richardson was a guest of KNSI’s Bob Hughes and talked about what the distinction means.

“The honorary fireworks Commissioner is an honor for those who helped make the Fourth of July possible and represents the best in America and what celebrating July 4 means.”

Leighton Broadcasting was selected by the Fireworks Committee for its dedication to many community and charitable events over the years.

Leighton Broadcasting has supported St. Cloud’s fireworks for many years.

Richardson says there are two crucial duties assigned to the honorary commissioner.

“I don’t know who gets to but, they’re going to be riding in the parade on the St. Cloud Fire Department’s antique Ahrens Fire truck, this Saturday during the Granite City Days Parade. And somebody gets to push the button that’s actually going to start the fireworks.”

The Granite City Days parade is on June 26.

“The St. Cloud Area July 4 Fireworks are a great tradition on Independence Day for all of us each year to celebrate our freedom and this wonderful fireworks display,” said Bob Leighton, Leighton Broadcasting President. “It is especially nice to be at full capacity this year for everyone to enjoy the show’ Leighton added.

2021 marks the 75th consecutive year for St. Cloud’s Fireworks celebration.

Fireworks are scheduled for 10:00 pm July 4.

There will be fun and educational activities for kids of all ages and food vendors in Hester and Wilson Parks starting at 2:00 pm.
