(KNSI) – St. Cloud will see plenty of sun and temperatures in the mid-90s on Friday and Saturday, but National Weather Service meteorologist Melissa Dye says low humidity will keep the weekend hot instead of sweltering.

“Luckily, our dew points shouldn’t be too high, so as far as concerns about excessive heat warnings or heat advisories, we should be able to steer clear of those,” Dye said.

Fire risk shouldn’t be elevated, either, though Dye says lower-than-average rainfall in the region during the spring prompted some red flag warnings earlier this year.

“Now that we are greened up a little bit more, it shouldn’t be too bad,” she said. “Additionally, the wind should be fairly light for Friday, and then it picks up a little bit on Saturday, but still, nothing too bad.”

Dye says there are some things to keep in mind while it’s hot out.

“You want to make sure that you’re ‘looking before you lock’ and you’re not leaving pets or children in hot cars for any amount of time, as the temperature does increase pretty rapidly,” Dye said. “You want to make sure that if you do have pets that are typically outside or other animals outside, you’re providing them with plenty of water and shade. That goes for yourself as well; make sure that if you are outside working that you’re taking plenty of breaks and drinking plenty of water.”

Friday and Saturday’s heat could approach or meet historic records. Dye says for St. Cloud, the hottest temperature recorded on June 4th is 95 degrees. For June 5th, it’s 96 degrees. High temperatures on Friday and Saturday are expected to hit 94 and 95, respectively. The area will see a slight cooldown on Sunday with a high of 92.
