(KNSI) – More than 140 people on board a Delta Airlines flight from Minneapolis to Baltimore are shaken up but OK after mechanical issues forced their plane to turn back late Thursday night.

The Airbus A320 sustained brake failure and lost reverse thrust shortly after takeoff, around 9:20. The plane flew around the twin cities burning fuel for a while before landing. One passenger on social media claiming to be on the flight says they were aware of landing gear problems and said doing an emergency landing was “scary as hell.” They said many of the passengers became ill.

Video from the scene shows the plane making a smooth landing. The pilot can be heard reporting he would have “very hot brakes” once they stopped. Airplane experts say the aircraft has backups for braking systems for situations just like this.

Emergency crews could be seen staging alongside the runway, which was closed for a time so the plane could be towed to a gate.

No one was hurt, but medics were called after at least two passengers reported feeling sick.
