(KNSI) – Former Minnesota Sixth District Congressman Mark Kennedy is out as University of Colorado President.
The school’s Board of Regents voted Wednesday 6-3 against allowing Kennedy to serve out the final year of his contract and instead voted 8-1 to pay him $1.35 million, including his $850,000 salary, plus unused vacation time and other money.
The school’s regents are elected with party affiliation, and Kennedy is a Republican former Congressman. He was chosen to lead the school by the then-Republican majority board. In November, the board’s makeup changed with a Democratic majority, which Kennedy said led to “changes in its focus and philosophy.”
He is expected to officially leave his position on July 1st.
Kennedy served in the U.S. House from 2001 to 2007 and was in the Sixth District from 2003 to 2007. He ran in 2006 for U.S. Senate but lost to Senator Amy Klobuchar.
