(KNSI) – The Sartell High School girls swimming and diving team has brought home some historic hardware. The team won their first-ever Class A True Team state championship at the University of Minnesota’s Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center, October 17th.

Sartell Activities and Athletics Director Bruce Thompson painted the picture. In water colors, of course.
“The last event, we had to swim so well in order to get enough points. They swam, they looked at the leader board. It got updated and said ‘Sartell number one.’ So the girls kinda went crazy. The ones that just swam were exhausted, but jumping up and down. The parents in the stands were fired up. It was just a super cool moment for everyone involved.”

McKenna Searcy grabbed Sartell’s only individual title, winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.13 seconds.
Thompson gave great credit to coach Sam Engel as well.

Up next, the undefeated Sabres host the Central Lakes Conference championships October 29th and 31st in Sartell.
