(KNSI) — A GoFundMe has been started for the family of a St. Joseph City Councilman as they deal with a serious health issue.
The page says 27-year-old Makayla Mooney was diagnosed last week with a blood clot in a vein around her brain, and scans also found an abnormal blood vessel formation inside her brain. She was hospitalized for five days, and the day after she was discharged, the abnormal blood vessels ruptured, causing a hemorrhagic stroke.
Makayla is the wife of Councilman Andrew Mooney, and she is also 19 weeks pregnant. The stroke is requiring multiple emergency brain surgeries. Organizers say she is in the ICU in a medically induced coma, and more surgeries and extensive care are expected for both her and the baby.
Mooney is running for re-election, and the city says his participation in Friday’s Councilor Community Forum is uncertain as he is tending to his family.
