(KNSI) – A man who ran from Meeker County deputies twice and disappeared into a cornfield near Dassel is now in custody.

Steven Oachs was arrested in Carver County on Tuesday on outstanding warrants from Hennepin and Wright counties. He is also facing possible charges tied to Sunday’s incident in Dassel.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of 3rd Street South around 4:00 p.m. The 52-year-old man from Watertown allegedly gave the deputy a false name and then took off on foot into a nearby cornfield.

Deputies say the man came out of the field a short time later and was picked up by a friend. Deputies stopped that vehicle, but he allegedly ran into the cornfield again.

Officers set up a perimeter and searched the area with drones and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter but did not find him.

Court records show Oachs was sentenced in March to 10 days in jail for violating his probation on a fifth-degree drug possession conviction. He was put back on probation under his previous terms.
