A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7th, at the park, 1529 Northway Drive. Afterward, Mayor Jake Anderson will take part in a ceremonial first serve on the new pickleball courts, followed by open play. Visitors are encouraged to bring a paddle and stay for a game or two.

The improvements include eight pickleball courts, 12 soccer fields, new trails throughout the park, and a large all-abilities playground. Crews also repaved roads and parking lots, added lighting along the roads, parking areas, and baseball fields, and improved accessibility for people with disabilities.

Knife River Corporation handled construction on the roughly $5.6 million project, which got underway in 2025. The work grew out of the city’s park and recreation master plan, first drawn up in 2017, and was paid for mainly through the local option sales tax for regional parks and trails, along with donations and grants.

Whitney Regional Park sits on the site of the former Alice Whitney Memorial Airport on the north edge of St. Cloud. It’s also home to the Whitney Recreation Center, the Whitney Senior Center, and the St. Cloud Area YMCA.
