Take Back the Night to Stand Against Sexual Violence

(KNSI) – Sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and stalking is sadly very common. Bri Cornell is a sexual assault advocate with the Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center and notes, “More than one in three women and more than one in six men will experience contact sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetimes.”

One event coming up hopes to raise awareness and more. Central Minnesota Take Back the Night is part of an international event that is organized locally to bring the community together to honor survivors and stand against sexual violence, domestic violence, human trafficking, stalking, and harassment. Central Minnesota Take Back the Night will be held on Thursday, October 8, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Riverside Terrace in Sauk Rapids.

The event will feature information highlighting community partners, speakers, and a candlelight vigil. The keynote speaker is Ana Maria Studer of Standpoint. Partners in making the event happen include Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center, Central Minnesota Child Advocacy Center, Zonta, Anna Marie’s Alliance, 500Rising, and Terebinth Refuge.
