St. Cloud Candidate Forum Set for Senate District 14, House 14A and 14B Races

(KNSI) – The League of Women Voters of the St. Cloud Area is giving voters a chance to question all six candidates for the Legislature in District 14 at a forum next week.

The event is Tuesday, September 29th, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Mississippi Room at the Great River Regional Library in St. Cloud. It is open to the public, and people attending can submit written questions for the candidates.

In the Senate race, incumbent Democratic-Farmer-Labor Senator Aric Putnam, first elected in 2020, faces Republican Representative Bernie Perryman, who gave up her House District 14A seat to run for the Senate.

That leaves 14A without an incumbent. St. Cloud City Council President Mike Conway, a Republican, is running against DFLer Abdi Daisane, a St. Cloud child care business owner who ran for the same seat in 2024 and lost to Perryman. Both won contested primaries in August.

House District 14B is also an open seat after Rep. Dan Wolgamott made a faied attempt to get the party’s nomination to run for state auditor. DFL candidate Zach Dorholt faces Republican Sue Ek. Dorholt represented 14B for one term, from 2013 to 2015.

District 14 includes St. Cloud, St. Augusta, Waite Park, Minden and Haven townships, and parts of Sauk Rapids and St. Joseph.

Questions can also be sent ahead of time to lwvstcloud@lwvmn.org. They must arrive by 12:00 midnight Sunday, September 27th, and organizers ask that they be brief and relate to the job of a state legislator.

The forum will be recorded and posted online for anyone who can’t attend. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd.
