Bridge Work in Paynesville Means a Highway 55 Detour

(KNSI) – Work starts Monday on a new bridge over the North Fork Crow River in Paynesville.

Highway 55 will be affected between Stearns County Road 130 and West Mill Street. The detour will take drivers along Highway 23, Veterans Drive, Business 23 and Main Street, and back to Highway 55. The $4.16 million project will also include a 10-foot, multi-use trail along the westbound Highway 55 side of the bridge. Traffic on Highway 55 will be detoured until early July of 2027.

The aims of the project are a smoother road surface, improved storm drainage, and increased motorist and pedestrian safety. The new, wider bridge is expected to last over 60 years.
