(KNSI) – Drivers in Sauk Rapids will lose a key connection to Benton Drive starting Monday.
The city closes 2nd Avenue South from Benton Drive to 6th Street South at 7:00 a.m. on August 31st, cutting off access to and from Benton Drive at that intersection. Crews will be working on the road, utilities and the railroad crossing as part of Stage 2 of the city’s 2026 Second Avenue South Pedestrian Railroad Crossing Improvements project.
Benton Drive stays open but drops to one lane in each direction between roughly 3rd Street South and 6th Street South, where the intersection becomes right-in, right-out only. The crosswalk across Benton Drive at 2nd Avenue South also closes, and a signed detour will route through traffic around the work zone.
The city expects Stage 2 to last through October, though that timeline is subject to change.
