(KNSI) – The transition from military to home life is a much bigger challenge than figuring out which club to use next. You’re invited to help with that process at the 13th annual Tee It Up for the Troops golf and fundraising event Monday, August 31st, at St. Cloud Country Club.
Gen. Robert Corley, who co-chairs the event, shares common challenges for returning vets. “When they return to civilian life, oftentimes they’re not around those people that they served with, so they wind up dealing with these issues a lot of times on their own or without a support network.” The general talks of two big areas of focus for helping vets. “Housing and homelessness is an issue not only in the general population but also within our military veterans and kind of tied to that is employment. Somebody that’s homeless also might just be in need of a job.”
During its first 12 years, St. Cloud’s Tee It Up for the Troops has raised nearly $300,000 to help with homelessness, PTSD and traumatic brain injury, suicide prevention, employment, and more. While this year’s event is sold out, area residents are invited to attend the opening ceremony at noon on the practice green at St. Cloud Country Club, 301 Montrose Road. Each year, a formal flag ceremony by the Color Guard and a moving tribute to veterans is part of the 30-minute program. Learn more here.
