(KNSI) – The city of Waite Park is accepting applications for the 2026 Metro Citizens Police Academy program, which will run from Thursday, September 10 through Thursday, November 12.
The program is open to residents and members of local civic and government organizations. Participants will gain firsthand experience in several areas of training that closely mirror the experience of police officer candidates. Topics will include community policing and ethics, domestic crisis investigation, defensive tactics and patrol procedures.
Classes will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every Thursday at various departments and locations throughout the academy. Those who complete the course will receive a certificate from Police Chief Anthony Reznicek at the final session.
To be eligible, applicants must be 21 or older and pass a criminal background check before being accepted into the program. They must also live in St. Cloud, Sartell, Sauk Rapids, St. Joseph, Waite Park or Stearns County.
Those interested in applying can do so on the Waite Park website. Applications are due by mid-August.
