(KNSI) — The suspect accused of stabbing an employee to death at a Cold Spring group home Saturday evening has been charged with second-degree murder.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the 400 block of 8th Avenue North for an assault and found a man lying on the ground outside with a severe injury to his neck. Life-saving measures were taken, but he was pronounced dead. Witnesses say they heard 33-year-old Luke McLane threatening to kill the victim before the attack, which was also captured on surveillance video.
McLane, who was arrested at the scene, is being held in the Stearns County Jail. He faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud says the victim was an employee who worked at the group home. The organization issued a statement saying they are devastated by the loss.
The victim’s name has not been released.
