(KNSI) – Becker Freedom Days is back, and organizers are promising seven solid days of events that build toward a packed final weekend.
The celebration runs June 13th through 20th. It kicks off Saturday morning with the EMR two-mile fun run and kids’ 1K at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Becker BBQ Bash at 1:00 p.m. From there the week fills out with daily happenings, from customer appreciation deals at local businesses to charity fundraisers. Organizers say the goal is to give every member of the family a reason to come downtown.
“It is a week of just fun, craziness, and it’s organized chaos,” said Kat, a member of the Becker Freedom Days board.
Several events are new this year. A cornhole tournament hosted by a local church takes place Sunday afternoon, and the Great River Regional Library is adding a slate of kid-focused activities, including Conductor Jack’s Dance Party, a bubble party, a bike rodeo and the Tiny School of Art and Design.
The biggest day is Saturday, June 20th. The parade steps off at 1:00 p.m., and the Kid Zone opens afterward with a petting zoo, glitter ponies, bounce houses and face painters. Live music from Stone Road plays into the evening, and the Becker Lions fireworks cap the night at 10:00 p.m. The day’s main events are free, though organizers suggest bringing about $15 per child for the Kid Zone.
Friday, June 19th features the fourth annual Renewal by Andersen car show from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with classic and modern vehicles judged across seven categories. The Legion Block Party and B.A.P.E. fundraiser follows, raising money for the new Becker Food Shelf building, with food, silent and live auctions, and an Elvis appearance.
The board has also tied this year’s volunteer effort to local fundraising, letting those who pitch in steer donations toward a Becker group of their choice. “We have money left over and we don’t like it sitting in our bank account. We love to give back,” Kat said.
Walk-up volunteers are welcome throughout the week.
