(KNSI) – Two central Minnesota communities are in line for electric vehicle fast-charging stations along Interstate 94, part of a statewide push backed by federal, state and private dollars.

A Circle K in Sauk Centre and a Love’s Travel Stop in Rockville are among 24 sites selected through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, or NEVI. The Circle K at 1185 South Main in Sauk Centre, near mile marker 127, was awarded $497,735.52 in the program’s first round. The Love’s at 8708 Crossing Drive in Rockville, near mile marker 164, was awarded $724,556.60 in the second round.

The two sites are part of a broader rollout by the Minnesota Department of Transportation and partner Francis Energy aimed at closing gaps in the state’s charging network. All 24 NEVI-funded sites are expected to be operational or under construction this summer.

The investment comes as electric vehicles gain ground in Minnesota. The number of EVs in the state has grown by 1,000% since 2018, and EVs as a share of car sales more than tripled from 2.9% in 2021 to 6.6% in 2025.
