(KNSI) – Metro Bus operators put their driving skills to the test at last week’s 37th Annual Local Bus Roadeo at the St. Cloud State University K-Lot, with top drivers earning a spot in the state competition.

The competition challenges bus operators to navigate real-life driving scenarios in a friendly contest.

In the Fixed Route division for large buses, Jason Hiivala took first place, followed by Bob Braegelmann in second and Adam Ploof in third.
The Dial-a-Ride division for small buses was won by David Peacock, with Wayne Prescott finishing second and Keith Drake taking third.

The top finishers from each division advance to the Minnesota Statewide Bus Roadeo, which will be held July 17th and 18th in Carver. Southwest Transit is hosting this year’s state competition. Top finishers at the state level become eligible to compete in their respective national and international competitions.

Local drivers have a strong track record at the state level, taking first place 27 times. They’ve also placed in the top four nine times at the national and international level, including three first-place finishes.

Metro Bus has been holding the competition since 1986.
