(KNSI) — Drivers at Sysco Western Minnesota have unanimously voted to authorize a strike if the company fails to reach an acceptable contract agreement before the current deal expires Sunday, May 17th.
The workers, represented by Teamsters Local 120, are pushing for higher wages, stronger retirement benefits, and more affordable health care, in line with contracts secured by Sysco Teamsters at other locations across the country, according to the announcement.
Driver Jeff Schreiner said workers aren’t looking for a fight, but are prepared to strike if necessary. “Nobody wants to go on strike, but Sysco is making billions while we are struggling with rising costs,” he said. “We’re prepared to do whatever it takes to win the contract we deserve.”
Local 120 President Tom Erickson noted that Sysco posted $1.8 billion in net profit in 2025, saying the company can afford to meet workers’ demands. “Sysco Teamsters are raising standards and winning strong contracts” at locations around the country, he said, adding that management needs to understand workers are “prepared to fight for every dollar.”
Teamsters represent more than 13,000 Sysco workers nationwide across the company and its subsidiaries.
An authorization to strike was also signed by Teamsters Local 120 last July before a four-year contract was approved and ratified.
