(KNSI) – A nine-year-old Sartell student is about to become a published author, and he’s inviting the community to celebrate with him.
Owen Bohn-Gettler, a third grader at Riverview Intermediate School, will release his first book, “Team S.T.U.F.F. #1: The Miserable Madness of the Mill Monster,” at a book release party on May 30th at the Sartell Community Center. Owen says becoming an author has been a lifelong goal. “I’ve always wanted to be an author since I was like really really young, like since I was like talking or like holding a pencil or whatever.”
He credits “Dog Man” author Dav Pilkey as his inspiration, and like Pilkey, Owen has ADHD, something his mother Kate calls his superpower. “There’s a lot of strengths to having ADHD, so remember what those strengths are. They really help you, you know, you bounce back quickly from things. You’re really creative. You’re really positive, and we just think of it as his superpower.”
The book follows five friends who must team up to stop an evil scientist and a monster created from a windmill. Owen drew nearly every illustration himself, sometimes redrawing pictures 10 to 12 times to get them just right. The project took about four to five months to complete with local independent publisher Summer Knees Books, based right here in St. Cloud.
Owen is already drafting the second book in the series, “Team S.T.U.F.F. and the Big Battle of the Bionic Bricks.”
The release party runs from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on May 30th in the library area of the Sartell Community Center. Owen will be signing autographs, and a display of his draft drawings will be set up in the Maker Space. The book is also available for pre-order now and on Amazon.
