(KNSI) – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office will host a memorial ceremony at the Rice Memorial Monument at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. The event is scheduled from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, and will honor police officers from various departments who died in the line of duty.

In addition to Benton County, the ceremony will recognize the Rice and Sauk Rapids police departments, among others. Benton County Jail Sergeant CoraLynn Martin will deliver opening remarks, followed by a proclamation from Rice Mayor Brian Skroch. Other scheduled speakers include Rice Police Chief Ross Hamman and Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck.

As part of National Police Week, May 15 is observed as Peace Officers Memorial Day, honoring officers who gave their lives to protect their communities. The event is free and open to the public.
