The Tri-County Humane Society will help rehome a large number of beagles recently released from Ridglan Farms, a Wisconsin-based research facility.

Some 1,500 beagles are in the process of being relocated to rescues across the country following a deal between Big Dog Ranch Rescue and the Center for a Humane Economy to purchase the dogs from the facility. Ridglan Farms has long faced accusations of abuse from animal rights activists, though the company denies the claims.

Tri-County Humane Society staff will travel to the Twin Cities the week of May 14 to bring the beagles back to St. Cloud. There, the dogs will be evaluated, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being cleared for adoption. Some may require foster care for additional socialization.

“We are so grateful for the incredible network of animal welfare advocates across the U.S. who have come together to help these beagles in their time of need,” said Tri-County Humane Society Executive Director Marit Ortega. “These dogs have been through unimaginable trauma. We’re looking forward to receiving them with open arms and showering them with lots of love and care.”
