(KNSI) – The Stearns County Law Enforcement Explorer Post is celebrating a strong showing at the 51st Annual Minnesota Explorer Conference in Rochester.

Stearns County Sheriff’s Office

Nine members represented the Stearns County Post at the recent conference, competing in 13 different scenarios along with academic learning sessions and a firearm target shooting event. The Sheriff’s Office says their Team B took home a 1st Place finish in the Domestic Assault scenario.

The competition drew Explorer Posts from across Minnesota and surrounding states, with one team traveling all the way from Nassau County, New York.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program is open to young adults between the ages of 15 and 21 who are interested in a career in law enforcement. Members learn response tactics for everyday calls, report writing, defensive tactics, and arrest protocol. Explorers also assist at local community events by providing security, first aid, traffic control, and parking.

Weekly Explorer meetings are held Sunday nights from 5:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
