(KNSI) — A Richfield police officer is recovering after being shot during an overnight confrontation that left a suspect dead.
Officers responded around 3:25 a.m. to a report of a car prowler. When they located the suspect, they fled. During the chase, police say the suspect brandished a firearm and gunfire was exchanged.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was shot in the hand and hospitalized.
The investigation is ongoing.
